With no disrespect to the areas that are listed here, there are some spots that are simply not optimal for dog walks. Either they are too busy, or the leash-free areas are too small and make an enriching dog walk unlikely.
Places that we would generally avoid:
- HaarlemmermeerseBos
- Probably a lovely place to be if you are a family and are planning a picnic in the park, but this area is about 90% on-leash and going through a very noisy park. With Groene Weelde so close by, I would skip this place and go where you and your pup can meander in peace.
Places to Avoid in Summer Only:
- Houtrak
- This is a nice enough spot but in summer, and particularly at weekends, there are many people fishing, picnicking, BBQing and horse riding. People often leave food leftovers (or worse) on the floor or in the bushes and the whole area can become littered with things you really do not want in your pup’s mouth. If you are okay being super vigilant whilst taking a walk then by all means, give the place a go. But definitely visit this area after the summer hordes have departed!
